Prof.
Dr. Harun Bilirgen pursued his Master's and Doctoral studies at the
Energy Research Center of Lehigh University in the USA. His research
focused on experimental and numerical investigations of two-phase
gas-particle flows in pneumatic conveying systems. He then carried
out postdoctoral research in the Chemical Engineering Department at
Lehigh University from 2000 to 2002.
From
2002 to 2013, he worked as a Principal Research Scientist at the
Energy Research Center of Lehigh University's Mechanical Engineering
Department. He conducted research on thermal efficiency enhancement,
combustion and process optimization, emission reduction and
compliance, CO2 capture and storage, waste heat/water recovery and
integration of wastes into industrial facilities, algae production
from waste water and flue gas using photo-bioreactors, coal drying
and beneficiation, and design and optimization using CFD modeling. He
served as project leader and team member in various applied projects
in the US, Turkey, China, Mexico, and Canada. During his tenure at
Lehigh University, he had the opportunity to present papers at
numerous international conferences, publish articles, and obtain
eight US patents.
In
late 2013, with the intention of transferring the knowledge,
know-how, and experience he had acquired abroad to his home country,
Prof. Dr. Bilirgen returned to Turkey and founded an R&D company
that specializes in energy and environmental technologies. The
company has conducted applied R&D projects in Turkey, the US,
Mexico, and Indonesia.
In
recent years, his work has focused on renewable energy, and he has
been conducting TÜBİTAK-supported studies on the design and
implementation of a micro-hydro turbine.
